bio
Joseph Lyle is a guitarist, vocalist, and creative soul whose music feels less like performance and more like an experience. For over a decade, he has quietly shaped the musical landscape of Idaho, offering a sound that is heartfelt, atmospheric, and unmistakably his own.
Born on Whidbey Island and raised in Boise, Lyle grew up surrounded by music, learning early how the right melody can shift a moment, soften a room, or linger in someone’s memory long after the last note fades. His hypnotic fingerstyle technique draws from the world-spanning artistry of Michael Hedges, Sergio Altamura, Tommy Emmanuel, and Andy McKee, blending classical influence with the warm colors of Mediterranean and Italian instrumental music. His pieces feel like small journeys—rich with texture, emotion, and cinematic nuance.
But Lyle’s artistry doesn’t end with instrumentals. He is equally known for his dynamic loop-station performances—layering guitars, harmonies, percussion, and vocals to build full, immersive live arrangements. His cover sets move easily between modern pop hits, classic rock, singer-songwriter gems, reggae grooves, and upbeat party favorites. Whether he’s creating an intimate atmosphere or energizing a crowd, Lyle brings a versatility that makes each performance uniquely alive.
A co-founder and original member of Fret Monkey Records, Lyle helped launch a global fingerstyle movement in 2015. He later toured with Oceans Are Zeroes and went on to release four solo albums—Surface Tension, A Walk with the Leaves, Snowflakes, and A Very Lyle Christmas—each reflecting a different facet of his musical voice.
He now splits his time between writing new music, organizing a local music exposition, and performing throughout the Boise area, continuing to share the sound that has meant so much to him since childhood.
